Another Day - Chapter 14
The group gathered up their stuff and left the rescue centre quickly, time was not their friend in this situation. Grabbing his knife, Daniel started to speak.
"Out of the frying pan..." he said, truer words could not be spoken at the current moment.
As they left, the survivors knew that about four others had been taken from the rescue centre, all of them were either female or well built males. The pattern was clear. These "raiders" were taking people they deemed useful to them. Slaves of all sorts. It was extremely important that they saved them as soon as possible.
The group headed down Darnton Road, the way Daniel and Shannon had gone before to save his little brother. However, this time the group would venture even further down the long road. The scenery around the road had changed even more in the past three weeks since Daniel had seen it. The fires of destruction had died down leaving the ruins of war in their wake. The trees had become sharp and blackened by the blast, com
Another Day - Chapter 13
The group had spent a good half an hour travelling back to the college. Walking around the path they went on from the memorial garden to the campsite, the group avoided the cannibals as much as possible. Without the gun on their side, they wouldn't have an upper hand against them in combat. Fortunately, Daniel had replaced his former weapon with the large knife the psychopath had dropped.
The group walked back the same path they had travelled on back to the college from the memorial garden, the once again saw the monument, however, this time there were two cannibals prowling around the statue.
"Do we attack?" asked Chloe, her hands slightly shaking as they ducked under the low wall that was in front of them as they approached the gardens.
"No, not unless they see us. They might attract some more of them if they see us" said Daniel.
"Well how do we get around them then?" asked Matt
"We crawl around the wall and then make a run for it across the road when we get to the end. If they see u
Another Day - Chapter 12
The group walked down the long road to the library. As they did, Kassi started to cry.
"What's wrong?" said Chloe, showing complete concern on her face.
"I just can't believe what's happened!" she replied, her voice confirmed her deep grief. "First Axel was beaten to death, then Sarah w-w-was stabbed and then Jasmine was dragged screaming into the darkness! I just can't take it anymore!"
Matt held Kassi in his arms, her tears of sorrow and pain being a shared emotion in the group, the loss of their friends now becoming extremely clear to them.
"Where was Sarah's body?" thought Daniel, noticing that when they went back to the elevator, the pool of blood was there but Sarah wasn't.
"Jesus Christ, I mean I can't believe Jasmine-" Kassi started to say before Shaun interrupted.
"Jasmine isn't dead!" he shouted "She just can't be..."
"Shaun... Jasmine's dead. We just have to accept that. As we have to with Axel and Sarah too" said Daniel, the harsh reality of losing those closest to him bein
Another Day - Chapter 11
Running down the winding staircase, the group couldn't have been faster to knock down the barricade that was hindering them from progressing further. The footsteps of the psycho echoed across the room, with a giggling sound that brought sheer terror to the survivors' hearts.
As the barricade came crashing down with a loud thud, the group charged to the windows, picking up items from the barricade such as tables and chairs, hitting the glass with them, only producing slight cracks in the glass. It was a useless effort and with the snickering maniac close behind them, they charged back to the automatic doors they had entered through. They realised they wouldn't open without the power on. Unfortunately, the killer wasn't far behind. They didn't have time to try and get out, instead they had to run.
"Over there!" shouted Shaun in a panicked state, pointing towards the area behind sets of tills. It was storage space. It was like a maze made out of crates and forty foot high shelves. They gr
Another Day - Chapter 10
The group kept on running towards the main entrance. They got to the doors, they were all locked. The psycho was approaching them slowly, dragging the end of the blade across the wall, scraping a line into it. Matt then looked for another way to escape. He then saw the giant staircase and had an idea.
"Up to the second floor!" he commanded "We'll lose her up there."
The group started to climb the staircase, the maniac right behind them. Shaun kicked her in the face as she reached out to grab his leg. She tumbled down the stairs without even screaming in pain. She simply got up and started walking again. Luckily the group were far enough away now. As they got to where they were suppose to go, they created the barrier of various items in front of the staircase, making sure the women wouldn't be able to get up.
They then heard the elevator start to move again.
The group prepared themselves, holding their knives and the crowbar close to themselves. As the doors opened, they saw not a blood
Another Day - Chapter 9
The gunshot signalled it was time to fight. The group ran outside of the hut, only for Daniel to be faced by the swing of a knife by one the freaks. Ducking underneath the blade in a way that almost seemed inhuman, he placed the gun under the cannibal's chin and pulled the trigger on him. He then took aim and fired two more rounds into the gathering crowd.
Shaun worked with Sarah and Jasmine, slashing and bludgeoning as many of their attackers as they could. Kassi and Matt protected their young friend Chloe, passing the knife Kassi was holding to each other to protect both sides. Their plan was working well until they realised they were vastly outnumbered. Looking at the way they originally planned to escape by, they knew it would be a wasted effort, they would be slaughtered instantly. Looking ahead, Daniel quickly thought of another option.
"Get to the bus station!" he shouted, firing more two rounds at a pair that were obstructing their way. The group ran as fast their legs could ca
Another Day - Chapter 8
The others ran over towards the edge of bridge. They peered over the side to see Shaun holding on to a block jutting out of the side. Daniel and Sarah reached out over the edge, grabbing his arm and pulling him up.
"Jesus Christ, we thought you were dead" said Sarah.
"For a second there, so did I" laughed Shaun, clearly shaken. Who could blame him, he nearly fell thirty feet off a bridge. "Shall we head on? We're not far from the markets now."
"Yeah, the longer we take, the more danger those guys are in" replied Daniel.
"Well let's get going then! Come on!" said Kassi with a raised tone, clearly worried about their friends.
As the group started walking towards the centre of Ashton, they walked through the war memorial site. The place was in ruins. Once a great monument that stood tall and mighty, it had now been reduced to bent and twisted metal on top of burnt rock and a dented plaque, now unreadable. The two lions that once stood with pride under the angel in the centre looked like t
