Ruby Red - Chapter 3

"Wha- wha- what?!?!" stuttered Chris, his eyes welling up "What do you mean?!?!"

"I was tasked with killing that thing that attacked you but I was careless, thought it was a push over. I didn't think it would kill anyone. Type ones are usually just angry, not homicidal-" he replied before Chris punched him, hitting his head against the wall"

"You bastard! Because of you, my family is gone! Because of you, I nearly killed myself! Because. Of. You, I have wasted a year of my life in a mental house, thinking I was insane!" he shouted, swinging his fist at Daniel again. Daniel caught the fist, putting him in an arm lock.

"Okay, one free hit is all you're getting!" he replied, gripping Chris tightly "I'm sorry for what happened but I'm not going to stand by and let you kill me. There are other families who are depending on me not fucking up. I learnt my lesson when I had to apologise to the other Hunter"

"Apologise! I lost my family!"

"I had to keep this title. If I didn't have access to these weapons, I could only capture those things instead of killing them.  Do you really think I'm out to capture these things when they cause so much pain?"

"How can you know pain. You've lost nothing!"

"Wanna know how I got this scar? Three years ago, I stayed after school for a late exam. I'm walking down a hallway and a Type 2 jumped out at me. It slashed across my chest. Fortunately, a Hunter shot it down. I woke up in hospital with them sitting beside me, telling me I was lucky I survived"

"What?"

"Three months later, I returned to school, finished my exams and went to college. There, I met her. The Hunter who saved my life and possibly hundreds more"

"Who was the Hunter?"

A knock then sounded on the door as a girl entered. A smiling girl, petite in size, came in holding a small box.

"Hey Danny, I heard this was your room. I came to-" said the girl before she saw the other boy "CHRIS!?!?"

"Kassi?!?! What are you doing here?" asked Chris.

"I was coming to ask Danny- What's the box doing out!" she called to Daniel, as she ran over to it, closing it quickly.

"Kassi, he knows. I had to tell him" Daniel replied, a serious tone on his voice.

"Do you know what you could have done? What if he tells someone" she replied angrily, taking him aside.

"He deserves to know. It's because of me he's missed a year of his life!"

As the pair argued, Chris noticed a red glowing dot start to engulf the wall. As it expanded, the dot became a gigantic circle with two triangles crossing over each other inside of it. The whole shape then started to glow bright, a gigantic wolf jumping out of it, landing down on Kassi. The wolf then stood up on its hind legs, swiping Daniel with its long tail, sending him into the wall. As Kassi lay on the ground and Daniel against the wall, Chris was defenceless against the oncoming beast. As it approached him, growling as it did so, its face split in half to reveal an eel like beast beneath, slithering out of the throat. As the eel lunged towards him, a large blue barrier appeared before Chris' body as he held his arms in front of his face in protection.

The monster kept lunging towards him, each time harming itself in an attempt to break the mystic shield. It then threw its whole body at the barrier, breaking it down into a thousand pieces. As Chris was knocked back, the creature grabbed Chris' throat, lifting him into the air as he kicked his legs around. The eel then approached his face, examining every detail before it lunged back, about to strike. As it plunged toward, Chris grabbed the eel. It then started to scream in pain as it flailed around in his hand. A white glow then started to irradiate from his arms. Chris then took hold of one half of its face, burning it there also. The monster let go of Chris, running back into the symbol on the wall as its left half of its face and eel like creature inside of it burnt away. The symbol then burnt away, almost looking like it had never been there.

As Daniel got to his feet, he walked over to Chris, offering his hand to pick him off the ground he lay on. As he got up, Chris started to speak.

"How the hell did I do that?"
